    About MarketBeat

    Matthew Paulson

MarketBeat was founded in 2011 by Matthew Paulson, an entrepreneur and private equity investor. In addition to being the founder and CEO of MarketBeat, Paulson also founded a startup group as well as GoGo Photo Contest. In 2016, he helped create the Falls Angel Fund, an angel investment fund based in Sioux Falls, SD.

MarketBeat’s aim is to empower individual investors to make the best trading decisions they can by providing real-time data and independent, objective analysis of the market — including analyst ratings. The site provides a wealth of information about the stock market, including news, economic reports, insider trades, IPOs, and more.

While MarketBeat offers a lot of free services, including top news headlines and analyst ratings of stocks, they also offer premium memberships for users who are looking for more in-depth information and news about the stock market. Every user on the site has access to MarketBeat’s daily email newsletter, whether they pay for a membership or not.

    What's Included

In addition to their free service, MarketBeat offers two premium services — the Daily Premium service and the All Access service. Both of these come with different features, functions, and pricing, and in the following sections we’ll dive in and take a closer look at each of the included features.

    Daily Newsletter

MarketBeat provides a free email newsletter subscription for all users, regardless of their membership level. In the daily newsletter, you’ll receive a summary of the top financial headlines for the day, real-time portfolio managing tools, a summary of analyst ratings and recommendations, among plenty more features.

MarketBeat’s free service delivers this daily newsletter at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Daily Premium subscribers get this information service twice a day — once at 9 a.m. EST and again at 5 p.m. EST. All Access members get this news twice a day as well, but earlier than everyone else — at 8:50 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

    Portfolio Monitoring

One of the best features that MarketBeat offers is its portfolio monitoring service. This feature not only allows you to have a feed of personalized information available to you — it also alerts you whenever something of significance . This allows you to follow objective information so you can analyze any stock — from dividend earnings to price to performance.

There are three levels to this service that MarketBeat provides: a portfolio monitoring tool, personalized news for your stocks, and email and instant SMS news alerts. Your level of membership will determine which of these features are fully accessible.

    Free Membership

For the free service of MarketBeat, you are limited to following five stocks.

    Premium Memberships

If you become a subscriber to either the Daily Premium or All Access plans that MarketBeat offers, you’ll be able to monitor and follow an unlimited number of stocks.

    Research Tools

MarketBeat also offers a significant number of research tools. These are broken into three categories:
    1. Stock screeners.
    2. Web-based research tools
    3. Company profile pages

    Stock Screeners

    Stock Screener

Included in this category are MarketBeat’s screeners for stocks, ETFs, dividends, earnings, and insider trades. These tools allow users to quickly identify anything that meets their criteria and it’s a great way to generate ideas for potential new trades. There’s also a ratings screener which gives you access to MarketBeat.com’s full database of more than 1.5 million stock recommendations.

While this feature is quite impressive, it’s only available to subscribers of the All Access plan.

    Web-based Research Tools

    Compare Stocks Tool

Perhaps the most impressive tool in this category is MarketBeat’s Compare Stocks tool, which allows you to compare up to five different stocks using more than 30 key metrics. This feature is available for all levels of membership to the site.

The Idea Engine helps you identify stocks that may be poised for near-term growth by using a number of algorithms and technical indicators. This will help you see a stock in the market that may be a good buy based on analyst ratings and other information. This feature, as well as the ability to export data to an Excel or CSV file, are available only to All Access members.

    Company Profile Pages

    Company Profiles

MarkeBeat also offers a number of different categories for company news and information to all members of their site. This includes analyst recommendations, consensus ratings and targets, key financial metrics, and dividend history — among other pieces of news.

While this information is readily available elsewhere online, MarketBeat brings it all together in one spot. It consolidates all of this information into one place so that stock traders can quickly and easily find what they’re looking for.

    Real-time Financial News

Everyone knows that one of the keys to successful trading in the stock market is having the best information available at your fingertips at all times. The way to do this is to stay on top of the news headlines as they come across the wire, including announcements of dividends, insider trades, and anything else that is pertinent to a stock you may own or not own.

    Only Available with All Access

MarketBeat provides their real-time financial news feed to All Access members. It’s unfortunate that this feature isn’t available to all users of the site as it’s outstanding, but that’s one of the compelling reasons to become a premium All Access member.

    Analyst Ratings

    Analyst Ratings Screener

MarketBeat has an entire section of their site that’s dedicated to analyst ratings. It’s a great feature that allows you to review companies based on a number of factors. The information provided includes the company name as well the action (such as target raised by or reiterated by), the brokerage firm, the current price and price target, the rating (such as buy, neutral, sell or hold), and the impact on the price.

From this screen within MarketBeat, you can also click through for much more detailed information or share it on Twitter or StockTwits. When you click through to the detail page, you’ll be able to view a full history of analyst ratings, as well as the exact recommendations made and when. You’ll also see the brokerage firm’s price target history for that particular stock, as well as the old and new price targets.

This is one of the most impressive areas inside of the MarketBeat members’ area and one that’s a favorite among subscribers.

    Earnings Announcements

    Earnings Announcements

Even if you’re relatively new to stock trading, you know that earnings announcements are some of the biggest events that traders consistently follow. The news that comes out of these announcements can instantly and dramatically affect the price of a company’s shares. That’s why it’s so important to stay on top of these announcements and follow them as they happen.

To make sure that you can stay on top of what’s happening, MarketBeat provides an entire page dedicated to these announcements. The sortable page can be listed by company, date, and consensus estimate.

    Listen in on the Call

    Earnings Call Button

If you’re a Daily Premium or All Access MarketBeat subscriber, there’s a handy call button next to each name on the earnings announcement list which makes it very convenient to listen to earnings calls. This allows you to get the inside scoop on the stocks you’re following and it’s a great feature that MarketBeat provides for its paying customers.

    Insider Trades

    Insider Trading

MarketBeat’s Insider Trading page provides buy and sell disclosures from insider investors. These insiders include directors, CEOs, and CFOs of companies.

    Available to Paid Members

If you’re a Daily Premium or All Access member, you’ll have full access to MarketBeat’s Insider Trading Screener as well as their top insider buying and selling lists. You’ll get a full breakdown of the number of shares, price per share, and the total transaction amount. Some companies even have the SEC filing available.

    Aggressive marketing…

These guys have a terribly persistent and aggressive marketing scheme. Once you sign up it’s impossible to unsubscribe. Their business practices seem questionable.

There are definitely better and cheaper alternatives available.

A constant bombardment of clickbait emails and ads that don’t even link to the topic of the ad. With the current cyber security threat, you will have no way of knowing if you end up the result of an attack due to their grossly inappropriate emails and alerts.

There is too much email and content pushing on Marketbeat, they are very aggressive also quietly opt-in to 3rd parties and saying you can opt-out any time.

We sign-up with you not other 3rd parties. So please do not sell our data to 3rd parties.

    Too much email…

There is too much email and content pushing on Marketbeat, they are very aggressive and the analysis likes depth. I find sites like tipranks.com and stocktargetadvisor.com which purely focus on stock analysis without too much ad pushing.
